The Real Issue: Why Stewardship?

by Pastor Felizardo Abanto

In Biblical stewardship the real issue is not money and cash. It’s really about conversion and spirituality. Real giving to God and God’s work is a thing of the Spirit of God. The things of the Spirit of God are foolishness to the natural or unsaved man. Scriptural doctrines are only understood through the enlightenment of God’s Spirit. No man calls Jesus Lord but by the Holy Ghost. Only a child of God can accept this teaching about stewardship. Judas can’t understood how Mary could waste a very expensive perfume on the Lord. But Zacchaeus was willing to give half of his goods to the poor and to restore fourfold whatever he gained by falsehood, although the law only requires restorations of the principal, with twenty percent interest. Although previously he was interested only in taking, now because he was already a believer, he was willing to give for the Lord’s sake.

The second factor is spirituality or the level of submission of the child of God to His commandments. The Bible recognizes two kinds of believers: the carnal and the spiritual. The carnal Christian is not yet totally submissive to God. He still lives like an unbeliever. He is like a baby that needs to learn everything. Carnal Christians confuse both the believer and the unbeliever. He professes salvation but is lacking in faith and good works. He is unfaithful. He is like a broken tooth and a foot out of joint. He needs to grow up and mature. He will break your heart and give you a headache. There will be envying, strife and division because of him. We don’t need them in our church.

May all of our members be genuine believers and manifest spirituality in their lives. Amen.

Where Is Your Heart?

Ito ang itatanong ko— “Where is your treasure”?
